Windows 10 may be the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system, but it isn’t perfect. Thankfully, you can tweak your settings to make it easier to use and more efficient on your computer’s resources. Take a look at these eight tweaks that can help make your Windows experience better than ever before , 8 settings for your Windows computer that you need to know

1) Customize Keyboard Shortcuts

One of the most important steps in customizing your keyboard shortcuts is creating one for opening and closing apps. To do this, right-click on the taskbar and select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, go to Shortcut Keys and then click New. Type Ctrl+Shift+W into the text field and then hit OK. Now open a new window by pressing Ctrl+Shift+N, close it with Ctrl+Shift+W, or minimize it with Ctrl+Shift++M.

2) Change from QWERTY to AZERTY

The AZERTY keyboard layout is the de facto standard in most of continental Europe and French Canada. In France, Belgium, Switzerland, Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco, it is the only keyboard layout in use. The QWERTY keyboard was designed specifically to slow down typists on typewriters by placing commonly used letter combinations farther apart on the keyboard.

3) Change DPI Scaling

This will allow the text on your screen to be much clearer and easier to read. For example, try setting it at 125% or 150%. You can find this option in Settings > Display. Do not show unsupported file types: If you have a lot of different types of files (such as .exe, .docx) on your computer, they might all pop up when you open a file.

4) Adjust Display Brightness and Contrast

Display brightness and contrast is the first setting you should adjust when working with a new computer. You can find this option under the ‘Display’ tab in the Control Panel. You’ll want to start with something around 50% of maximum brightness, as some screens are much more difficult to see than others.

Different screen types will have different standards of what constitutes comfortable viewing. CRT monitors, which are primarily used by older computers, usually have the brightest screens but also use electricity less efficiently than newer LCDs or LEDs do.

5) Use Mouse Keys

Mouse Keys is a helpful feature if you have difficulties using the mouse. Mouse Keys allows you to use the number pad on your keyboard instead of the mouse. You can use keys 1-4 as left, right, up and down arrow keys respectively. The 5 key will act as an Enter key and the 6 key will act as a Backspace key. To enable Mouse Keys in Windows 8 or 10 go to Settings > Ease of Access > Keyboard and turn on Use Mouse Keys.

6) Type Faster with an On-Screen Keyboard

If you want to type faster on your Windows computer, use an on-screen keyboard. This will allow you to see what you’re typing as well as avoid hitting the wrong keys. There are a number of free options available online, such as BetterTouchTool. For Mac users, there’s TouchPal X. These keyboards may take some getting used to but they can really improve your efficiency and productivity if you invest the time in learning how to use them.

For example, if we want our pictures opened in Adobe instead of the default photo viewer, we can just head over and change it.
