groove on with Instagram
Just in time for back-to-school, you can now make cool music videos using popular songs from YouTubers like Taptap, Popular Pakistani and Bhaiyyaji. The one-minute tracks work just like GIFs: You add them to a post as a background audio track or an overlay video that plays as you move from frame to frame. It’s pretty neat, though not nearly as fun (or customizable) as Snapchat Lenses.
How do I add music to my story?
While it’s not exactly difficult to put music in a story, you will want to be sure that you find something that is appropriate for the situation and audience. In order to add music to a story, follow these steps: Open Instagram and open up your camera. Hit record and then go through as many clips or pictures as you’d like to add into a single story. Once you are done recording, hit Next in the top right corner of your screen. At this point, there should be an option to upload music. Simply click on that button and select a song from your library (or use one of their suggested songs). Once you have added a song to your story, you can edit where it plays by dragging it around within each clip until it is positioned where you would like it to play. You can also move around each clip independently so they don’t all play at once if that isn’t what you’re going for. Once everything looks good and sounds good, save or share away!
Choose from a variety of tracks
Whether you’re writing a post or snapping a selfie, listening to music is a great way to inject some energy into your creative process. And now, you can choose from a variety of options for every situation—including scenes and selfies—thanks to 1-Minute Music videos. The videos can be used for Reels and Stories, letting you add different music to each post so they have their own distinct vibe. But if you want one tune for everything, that option is available too. They’re only available in India right now but we suspect they’ll be making their way around other corners of Instagram soon enough…so stay tuned!
Where do I find the Music option?

Open up your Profile or Story (wherever you share video). Tap Add, and then tap Music. You’ll see a list of songs. From there, tap whichever one you like best—or tap Get More to browse more songs in different genres. When you select a song, you can also choose how long it will play: 30 seconds, 1 minute, 3 minutes or 5 minutes. And that’s it! Tap Post to upload and post to your Story or add a filter before posting if that’s what you prefer (not everyone does).
Use it on your story or your reels
According to a company spokesperson, you’ll find these short jingles by tapping on that Add Music button and then scrolling down to Instagram Playlist. From there, you can choose one of their 10 hand-selected playlists or tap Create Your Own Playlist and make your own. Either way, once you’ve chosen an option, it will show up under any videos/images as a swipeable song selection until you decide to change it. You’ll also be able to hear what each song sounds like from within the app before adding it to your story or reel.
