What you will need

Step 1: Download and Install Chrome Browser

To use your chromecast on a Windows PC, you must download and install Chrome browser. You can download it from Google’s website here. Once installed, you can begin setting up your Chromecast with chrome.

Step 2: Enable Developer Mode

Chromecasts are simple devices, but only if you’re not trying to run them on a computer. If you do that, you need software. The easiest way is to install Google’s own ChromeCast Software Development Kit (SDK). However, ChromeCast doesn’t run well with every version of windows. So in order to get it working properly you first need to enable Developer Mode in Windows 10 by going into Settings and changing some options around.

Download and install Google Chrome if you haven’t already. Open up Chrome, open Chrome Web Store and type in Google Cast Search for Google Cast and download it (it will be called Google Cast – Google Inc.) Step 4b (Using Windows 8): Download Chromecast App from Microsoft Store

The app is compatible with your PC and its system software. It should work with Windows 10, 8 and 8.1 operating systems. Once you open it on PC, connect chromecast device to HDMI port on TV via HDMI cable. Click cast button in chrome cast app and select which media source you want to use e.g Netflix or YouTube etc. Now enjoy watching it on your big screen without remote or any hardware.

Step 5 (Optional): Connecting via Ethernet or by Wi-Fi Adapter / Dongle, Set Up/Create New Network, Change SSID & Password, Activate Guest Network Access

To use your Chromecast from another room, you must have an active Wi-Fi connection. Make sure that a computer with Chrome or with Chromium installed is plugged into a router that supports Wi-Fi connections. Connect using Ethernet or by purchasing and connecting a USB Wi-Fi adapter / dongle.
