Parrot Security OS, or Parrot OS, is an operating system designed to be used by security researchers and penetration testers. It has a huge variety of tools that will help you with pen-testing but what makes it better than Kali? Take the time to read this article to find out! Parrot OS vs Kali: Why Parrot OS is the clear winner

Installing Parrot OS on Raspberry Pi

The first step in installing Parrot OS on a Raspberry Pi is to download an image of it and write it to your SD card. There are several good tutorials on how to do this, but I recommend following this one by Adafruit. Once you have booted into your new operating system, you will be ready to start playing with it.

Install Tor

To install Tor, use apt-get to download and install Tor.

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install tor

To start, run Tor and configure it for use. Run /etc/init.d/tor start to bring it up, and then you can begin to configure a bit. Stop Tor by running /etc/init.d/tor stop, and then edit your configuration file in /etc/tor/torrc with nano or your favorite text editor.

Enable SSH

The first step to getting started with any Linux distribution, including Parrot, is to enable SSH. This will allow you to remotely access your system and make changes without requiring physical access. This can be done by typing sudo raspi-config and selecting option 2 or enabling SSH from the command line with sudo raspi-config and selecting option 7.

Change Password

Passwords are used for a number of things, from logging into your email to unlocking your phone. This means that it’s important to keep them secure and make sure that you’re using strong passwords.

A strong password should be at least 10 characters long and contain both letters and numbers. It should also never be something obvious like your name, or something related to what you do.

Set Static IP Address

Setting your static IP address will help you get a stable connection so that you can stay online even when you switch networks. On some devices, like Macs and PCs, this process can be done through the network settings panel. On others, like smartphones and tablets, it may involve going into your device’s settings to set a static IP address.

The first thing that you’ll want to do is find out what your current IP address is by typing ipconfig into the command prompt or terminal on your computer.

Update Raspbian packages

Raspbian, like many other distributions of Linux, has a package manager that makes it easy to keep your packages up-to-date. To update all of the installed packages on your system, you can use the following command in terminal: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade.

Create Wi-Fi Access Point

In order to create a Wi-Fi Access Point, you will need to know your SSID and Password. To do this, enter these values in the boxes on the configuration window. You will also need to know what type of encryption your network requires. If you are unsure what type of encryption your network requires, select WPA2-PSK (Personal) for best results.

Wireless Printer Configuration (HP ENVY 4520 e-All-in-One)

Wireless setup for HP ENVY 4520 e-All-in-One can be done by following these steps:

1. Scan for wireless networks on your computer and select one to connect to.

2. Type in security key if required, then press Enter or click OK.

3. Select Next and a window will pop up asking you to enter your printer’s SSID name, type that in and hit Next.

Aptitude Updates and Cleanup

Kali, in its original form, is a Debian-based Linux distribution designed for digital forensics and penetration testing. Although it has been used by many as a tool for system administration and software development, that isn’t what it was intended for. Since Kali uses older versions of packages and they are not automatically upgraded to newer ones, it can be very difficult to maintain them or keep them updated.

Additionally, due to how it is structured (systems are broken down into two types), upgrades can lead to incompatibility issues if done improperly – this also makes maintaining your machine much more difficult.

Recommended Extras for penetration testing

Parrot OS is arguably the most powerful and user-friendly penetration testing operating system that exists. It was designed with a modern, intuitive interface that will allow you to navigate through its features with ease. Some of its more notable features include a built-in network sniffer, packet crafting tool, proxy chains, a wide variety of wireless access points and many more. The best part about this operating system is that it’s completely open source and free to download for anyone who wants it.
